The ministry of Cantor has many roles. The cantor is primarily the liturgical Psalmist, but is also a songleader and worship leader. As Psalmist, the cantor shares in the proclamation of God’s Word. As songleader, the cantor teaches the assembly its hymns, psalm refrains, and acclamations. As worship leader, the cantor acts as a catalyst for the expression of faith through sung prayer and movement within the assembly. The ministry of a cantor is unique. It requires a great deal of competence, and auditions are required. It is a musical, liturgical, and pastoral ministry; rich in tradition, and thoroughly modern. Our parish cantors rehearse on Wednesday evenings at 7:30 throughout the year. Sunday morning rehearsals are also available as needed for those who cannot attend on Wednesdays.
