Funerals
The music ministry looks to serve our parish family during times of bereavement. If you have lost a friend or family member, and are in the process of making funeral arrangements, the parish's musicians would like to make you aware of the following:
• A cantor and accompanist is ordiarily assigned to each parish funeral to lead the gathered assembly in its hymns, psalms, and sung responses.
• Our musicians do their best to honor requests for specific hymns or psalms, provided they are chosen from the parish hymnal (Breaking Bread) and follow any seasonal or liturgical requirements or guidelines. All requests are considered on an "if possible" basis.
• Music with a high degree of sentimental meaning to the family may not always be permissible for use during Mass under the liturgical guidelines of the church. However, arrangements can often be made with our parish musicians for music at the funeral home in such cases.
• Family members or friends who are musicians are welcome to join the parish music staff in ministry. Please consider that it may be overwhelming to perform often unfamiliar music during the entire Mass; one or two especially meaningful pieces may be more manageable.
